FIT Knocks Down Electrical Fire in New Jersey and Reduces Water Usage by 80%
Mount Tabor, New Jersey
September 2009
A short while after receiving their FIT device, the Mount Tabor Volunteer Fire Department Parsippany-Troy Hills District 1, used their FIT device in response to an incipient bedroom fire in a suburban Mount Tabor home in New Jersey.
Upon arrival Captain David Hollner grabbed the FIT device from his Chief's truck and proceeded to the unventilated bedroom and deployed the FIT. “Upon deployment the fire was completely knocked down and the temperature dropped significantly", said Captain Hollner. The FIT bought approximately 5 minutes until apparatus arrived on scene. “With this knock down we were able to limit our water usage greatly and prevent the fire from spreading further", said Captain Hollner.
The FIT helped reduce water usage by as much as 80%. The department used about 200 gallons of water rather than the expected 1000+ gallons. Cause of the fire was determined to be electrical. This was the department's first FIT deployment with great results.
